Niner Nation fans have looked forward to this weekend for far too long now. However today has finally come: the 1st Inaugural UNC Charlotte Football Game is here. Athletics are expecting a large crowd today for the noon game at Richardson Stadium, as well as hectic traffic. The CMPD and UNC Charlotte Police are working hard to enforce guidelines and regulations for the safety of all 49ers.
As Niners and Alumni tweet, Facebook and Instagram pictures kicking off today’s football game, tailgating seems like it can’t come fast enough. Most are planning on starting early in the morning, particularly those interested in participating in the Niner Walk.
In order to tailgate, you must have obtained a tailgating permit through www.uncc.clickandpark.com/event which is free of charge for UNC Charlotte students. Once permits are issued to capacity the only available parking will be in East Deck 2, East Deck 3, or South Village using your UNC Charlotte student-parking pass. If you are a visitor you will need to park in the visitor lots East Deck 1 and South Village. For those in need of an ADA parking permit you will need to trade in the white tailgating permit for an orange colored pass to park in the CRI deck.
In addition to tailgating and parking, kegs, glass containers and any drinking games that expedite alcohol consumption are prohibited. Tailgaters may have grills as long as they are not located on brick pavers or in parking decks. Lots will open for tailgating four hours prior to the game and will close two hours after the game.
Although the school has set guidelines in order to protect the safety of students, have fun and cheer on your 49ers as they take on the Campbell Camels. Wear your Niner colors tomorrow and paint the stadium green and white. Go Niners!
