Fall fashion essentials

| September 12, 2012 | 0 Comments

As the cool weather is approaching, the time has come to trade in those flowy summer dresses and little knit tanks to make room for all the latest fall essentials. With so many new trends to try and pieces to buy, dressing to impress can be overwhelming. Here are a few basics that are extremely versatile and super functional. With the right accessories, any of these pieces can easily be dressed up for a more formal occasion or dressed down to rock in class.

Ladies:

1. The oversize sweater

An oversize sweater is a great basic to have in your closet this fall. Whether you pair it with black leggings and knee-high boots or a colored pant and flats, this piece can easily be worn many ways. You can dress it up with a bold statement necklace or pair it with a printed scarf. With almost every store carrying these sweaters in so many colors and prints, you are bound to find one, or four, in your signature color and style.

2. The colored blazer

Don’t let the blazer fool you into thinking this is only for dressing up. With so many different colors and styles of blazers out on the racks this fall, you are guaranteed to find one that flatters your shape. For a quick and effortless look, throw on a colored blazer over a basic white t-shirt, and pair it with your favorite skinny jeans and loafers. For a more polished look, a blazer over almost any dress will look fabulous.

3. The colored pant

This past spring, the colored denim trend took over and the fashion industry produced our favorite jeans in every color imagined. This fall, the colorful bottoms are still trending and are an easy way to spice up any outfit. The perfect way to incorporate a colored pant into your closet is to switch out your regular denim for any color of your choice and pair it with a solid top. Feeling a bit more daring? Try rocking a colored pant with a striped top or a graphic t-shirt.

4. The ankle boot

As the time comes to say goodbye to your beloved sandals, you won’t miss them one bit when you see how many trendy ankle boots are on the store shelves this fall. Ankle boots come in a variety of heights and colors, so you won’t have a problem pairing them with a number of outfits. For an everyday look, try wearing a beige boot with skinny jeans, or leggings and a colorful oversize sweater. Going out on the town? Dress up your ankle boots with a fun miniskirt and bold top. The options are endless when it comes to matching these fashionable boots with a killer outfit.

Men:

1.  The dark denim jean

Having a pair of dark wash jeans in your closet will serve you well. Whether you are rolling out of bed to get dressed for class or trying to get ready for a hot date, you can do no wrong with a pair of dark wash jeans. For an everyday look, throw on a comfy, basic t-shirt and your favorite kicks. For a more dressed up yet casual look, pair the jeans with a button-down shirt and a blazer. A good pair of denim is essential in every closet.

2.  The white button-down shirt

There are some pieces of clothing that never go out of style and a white button-down shirt is one of them. You can essentially rock this shirt with any outfit and easily can take it from day to night without having to change a thing. There are a number of different styles out there so you have plenty of choices when picking out the one for you. Dress up the shirt with a fitted blazer and great pair of jeans, or throw it on when you are in a rush to get ready for class. Feel good knowing that this white basic will always impress.

3.    The driving shoe

A slip-on driving shoe is a perfect transition piece for the fall. There are a multitude of fabrics and colors available for this shoe and you are sure to find a pair or two that works for your lifestyle. For a casual everyday look, throw on a black or brown pair with jeans and a basic white t-shirt. Going out to dinner? Wear these comfortable shoes with a dressier pant and collared shirt. Just make sure you have a belt in the same color to finish off this look.

 4. The crew neck sweater

This is a basic piece of clothing that no guy should go without this fall. From lightweight to cable knit and fitted, to oversize, these sweaters are available in every color or pattern imaginable. Wear a sweater over your favorite striped button-down shirt or alone with a belt and pair of khakis. For a more comfortable feel, try wearing a crew neck sweatshirt.

There are so many fun fall trends and a number of ways to personalize them to your liking. What are some of your favorite fall trends right now?
