Revealing Halloween Costumes aren’t alway acceptable

“In girl world, Halloween is the one night a year when a girl can dress up like a total slut and no other girls can say anything about it,” said Cady in “Mean Girls.” Step into the typical Halloween party and see this quote in action easily. Kinky costumes are everywhere.

A girl dressing 10 times trashier than normal on Halloween night has become so commonplace that it seems strange to see a girl dressed in a costume that actually looks like a real costume. I can imagine a little girl walking around the neighborhood trick-or-treating with her mom and coming up to the door to see a college-aged girl dressed in a “costume.”

“Mommy, is that Dorothy? I don’t remember her dressing like that in the movie,” a little girl may say.

Or maybe “Daddy, I think that girl forgot to put her pants on with her costume.”

I have actually heard kids say things like this before. Children just say what is on their minds based on their natural instinct and if it is common sense even to a child that nobody should have that much leg hanging out of the bottom of the dress, then I think it should be commonsense for a college girl too.

Maybe we need to take a second look at our Halloween costumes and make sure they are appropriate for the situation. I am not saying
you have to dress as a nun for Halloween this year, but just be mindful of what you’re wearing and where you are wearing it.

If you are going to be around kids especially, I am sure their parents would love if you would cover just a little more skin. Ten-year-old boys should not have the opportunity to see that much skin of a young woman at their age and parents would definitely attest to that.  If you are not going to be around kids, dress how you want to; but know that if you have something showing, people are going to look.

On the topic of modesty in general and specifically at Halloween, so many girls complain that guys stare at them with their eyes drifting from their faces downward. On the defense of guys, many girls are asking for it. A lot of guys say that they don’t even want to see all of that, but if you dress with everything showing, of course people are going to look. So if you don’t want people looking, then just cover it up; Halloween is no exception.

The point of Halloween costumes is to dress up to look like someone else, and so many girls completely ignore this. Instead of dressing up like someone else, they just find the sluttiest costume they can find. If you’re going to do that, so be it, but at least admit it. I wish girls would show some tact and watch what they’re wearing. Don’t wear revealing costumes around kids, and don’t complain when people stare at  you when you are intentionally giving them something to look at easily. Have fun with Halloween costumes, but remember to be safe, careful and tasteful!
